Research Innovation Awards

The Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies launched an annual “Research Innovation” awards program four years ago as a vehicle to highlight and celebrate the diversity of UO scholarship and achievement.

The 2009 focus of this program is “Science and Innovation", and we are pleased to honor the following faculty award recipients for their outstanding achievements:

Research Innovation Award recipients and presenters (left to right) Michael Haley, Scott Coltrane, George Sprague, Richard Linton, Dietrich Belitz, Shawn Lockery, David Tyler, Ray Weldon II, Jennifer J. Freyd, Gregory Bothun, Eugene Humphreys, Raymond E. Frey, Hal Sadofsky, Lou Moses and Kathy Cashman.

Research on display from Shawn Lockery’s lab. Using a combination of electrophysiology, brain imaging, microfluidics, and mathematics, his team investigates the neuronal basis of chemotaxis, a form of spatial orientation behavior in the roundworm.

Vice President Richard Linton introduces the fourth annual Research Innovation Awards that recognize this year’s eight exemplars of UO research excellence in the Natural and Physical Sciences.

Scott Coltrane, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, emphasizes that all of the recipients have gone well beyond the normal expectations for research achievements, and are truly scientific innovators.
