FY17 Funding News from SPS Annual Report
UO researchers brought in $114.9 million in grants, contracts and other competitive awards during the past fiscal year, with $93.6 million coming from federal funding, which accounted for 81.5 percent of the UO’s total grants, contracts, and awards.
“The sum total of research and innovation activity over the past year reflects the talent and dedication of our outstanding faculty members, who conduct transformative research and make exciting discoveries every day on this campus,” said David Conover, UO’s vice president for research and innovation.
Given the reality that federal funding for research has been diminishing in recent years, Conover said, it is remarkable that UO researchers continue to be highly successful in winning competitive federal awards. Nevertheless, he said, the UO needs to diversify research funding beyond the federal government in the coming years.
In some ways, the transformation is already happening, as reflected by the fact that non-federal funding increased for the second year in a row. Funding from non-federal sources — such as industry, foundations and associations — increased by 15.7 percent from the previous year, a sign that research funding sources are continuing to grow and diversify.
We are transitioning our standard forms to online forms for convenience and streamlined routing. Currently, the Pre-Award Spending form is online and available from the SPS Forms webpage. Two more forms will be released soon, the Cost Transfer Justification Form through the BAO Forms portal, and the Faculty Award Recipient Form from the SPS Forms webpage.
Please let us know if you would like to help us test new forms as they are created by emailing Carrie Chesbro at Chesbro@uoregon.edu.
