Mandatory PI certification deadline nears

Thanks to the principal investigators who have completed their PI certification modules. Completing the module is an annual mandatory requirement for all PIs/Co-PIs at the University of Oregon. So far, more than 85 percent of you have finished your certification. Remember, the deadline to complete the certification module is March 31, 2015.

Failure to complete the module by the deadline will result in:

  1. Your privilege to submit proposals revoked
  2. Current grant accounts frozen
  3. New awards not set-up

These are temporary consequences and privileges will be immediately reinstated upon module completion.

Completing the certification module should take approximately 15-20 minutes and it does not have to be finished in one sitting. Similar to the Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) certification put in place a few summers ago, the SPS PI certification program was developed to meet the recommendations of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies. The program takes into account feedback we received from UO faculty members who indicated that the institution needed to provide more specific guidance on the roles, responsibilities, and obligations of Principal Investigators.

The annual training negates the need for the pre- and post-award certification processes that were in place within EPCS and online. Please complete your certification as soon as possible, and feel free to contact Analinda Camacho or one of her team members in Sponsored Projects Services with questions and suggestions.
