The Office of the Vice President is pleased to announce the appointments of Dan Gavin as Director of the Environmental Science Institute and Scott Bridgham as Director of the Institute for Ecology and Evolution (IE2).
Dr. Gavin is an Associate Professor of Geography specializing in biogeography, paleoecology, and forest ecology. Founded in 2012, the Environmental Science Institute promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in the environmental sciences and includes faculty and graduate students from environmental studies, biology, geology, geography, anthropology, and other disciplines.
Dr. Bridgham is a Professor of Biology. His research involves understanding mechanisms controlling ecosystem structure and function, the scale of his research ranging from detailed examination of biogeochemical pathways and microbial dynamics, to plant community studies, to whole-watershed and landscape studies. The Institute for Ecology and Evolution facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology.
