We want to bring to your attention the updated appointment guidelines and frequently asked questions for postdoctoral scholars, which have been posted on the Office of the Provost and Academic Affairs’ website. Please review this document if you have either 12-month or 9-month postdoctoral scholars in your unit, as there have been changes to both types of appointments.
In particular, these guidelines clarify that, on January 1, 2018, all postdoctoral scholars will be moved into the Blended Rate Faculty/Staff B regardless of when they were hired. Employees hired before January 1, 2018 will be grandfathered into the retirement plan they are currently receiving. For FY 2018, the Blended OPE Rate Faculty/Staff B is 48%, which is 24 percentage points lower than the previous rate for 12-month postdoctoral scholars, and continues to include leave.
In addition, the FAQs explain which positions will qualify for the postdoctoral retirement plan, clarify the circumstances under which postdoctoral scholars can teach, and detail how floors and raises work for 12-month postdoctoral scholars.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these guidelines.
