Fall quarter is underway and I am pleased to announce the recent appointment of Dr. James Hutchison to the position of associate vice president for research in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation. A green chemistry pioneer who holds the Lokey-Harrington Chair in Chemistry, Dr. Hutchison served as the UO’s AVP for research from 2007 to 2011, and he brings significant experience in research administration to our team. Welcome back, Jim!
Our other faculty leadership include Drs. William Cresko and Cassandra Moseley — both associate vice presidents for research — and Dr. Andrew Nelson, executive director for UO activities related to the Regional Accelerator and Innovation Network (RAIN).
Drs. Cresko, Moseley and Hutchison provide management and oversight of research core facilities and some administrative units and take leadership roles on a number of internal and external working groups and committees. Additionally, Dr. Moseley serves as an institutional official and as the UO’s research integrity officer. Dr. Nelson coordinates and facilitates UO activities associated with RAIN, focusing on student and faculty programming. RAIN is an Oregon consortium of government, higher education and the business community.
All of our faculty leadership have partial appointments in our office and remain active in their research and academic appointments. Together, we will be working in support of President Schill’s three core objectives, which include building our tenure-related faculty and promoting our academic research. We are heartened that the president's priorities align so well with those of the research office, and we look forward to working with him, our faculty, and our students to grow and enhance our standing as a world-class research university.
