UROP Quarterly Update: Fall 2016

A Resource for UO's Community of Scholars
The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) is a resource for the University of Oregon’s community of scholars. UROP seeks to support and advance faculty-mentored undergraduate research and creative scholarship through providing funding mechanisms to students, acting as a resource for the UO community, and collaborating with campus partners.

UROP Supports More than 50 Undergraduate Researchers During 2015-2016
A total of 53 students participated in programs affiliated with UROP during the 2015-2016 academic year. Forty-four undergraduate researchers received ~$100,000 in support through the UROP Mini-grant program, the VPRI Undergraduate Fellowship, and the Humanities Undergraduate Research Fellowship (the HURF opportunity is jointly administered with the Oregon Humanities Center and the Division of Undergraduate Studies). An additional nine students participated in the Presidential Undergraduate Research Scholars program that is funded by Presidential Chair in Science Geraldine Richmond and jointly administered with UROP.

Funding Opportunities Available for Winter Term
Students can start preparing applications now for the Mini-grant Program, Presidential Undergraduate Research Scholars, and the VPRI Undergraduate Fellowship. Also, the UROP website has plenty of information for undergraduate students, including an extensive list of on-campus and external program opportunities. Faculty are encouraged to share this resource with their students.

Not Just Science
Say the word "research "and images of test tubes, chemicals, and microscopes come to mind, but UROP helps students pursue more than just research in the natural and physical sciences. Research projects on everything from creative writing to exploring gender issues to international research is supported through UROP. Any student with a question, idea, or interest in getting started in research can visit the student section of the UROP website to learn more and find assistance.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program
UROP seeks to support and advance faculty-mentored undergraduate research and creative scholarship in all of the disciplines included in the UO’s seven schools and colleges.
