Research Recovery Transition to Stage 1A and Town Hall/Q&A Sessions

NOTE: This message was sent to the UO research community on July 27, 2020

Dear Campus Research Community,

I am writing to share that as of today, July 27, the Research IMT is transitioning to an expanded set of activities allowed under Stage 1A to facilitate additional research activities.  These include:

  1. Increased allowances for human subjects research, including research in close proximity (brief duration within 6 ft of distance with appropriate and defined PPE) as well as longer visits with research participants in outdoor spaces.
  2. Increased training opportunities, including training new users and limited duration training in close proximity (brief training within 6ft of distance with appropriate and defined PPE).

Although there continue to be considerable limitations for some researchers, these changes will allow for a number of expansions including restarting several types of human physiology studies, EEG, fMRI scanning in the Lewis Center for Neuroimaging, engagement with families for longer outdoor research sessions, as well as training of incoming graduate students and other new lab members. Full details on UO stage 1A priorities and permissible activities are outlined in our Staged Approach for Restarting Research Activity. Please review that webpage, as well as the Frequently Asked Questions, for further information on transitioning to UO stage 1A.

We are also introducing a new “Commitment to Research Safety and Public Health” form that all individuals involved in on-campus research are expected to complete weekly.  This applies to personnel under all phases/stages of approved recovery activities.  You will receive an automated e-mail each Monday from Smartsheet (specifically, our OVPRI project manager, “Brittney de Alicante via Smartsheet”).  Please check your junk or SPAM folder if you do not receive this message by 12pm.

If you have an approved UO stage 1 Research Recovery Plan, you will receive an invitation to submit a Transition to Stage 1 Addendum.  If you have an approved UO phase 0.5 Research Recovery plan, or are submitting a plan for this first time, please complete the UO stage 1 Research Recovery Plan Template and submit here. Recovery plans are being reviewed by a team of Research IMT members, EHS staff, and subject area faculty.

We also invite you to join the OVPRI and Research IMT for a Town Hall to discuss Stage 1A implementation as well as future stages and fall planning.  Please note this town hall is largely geared toward faculty PIs and research leadership.

The Research IMT will be hosting a separate Q&A on August 12 that is centered around the questions and feedback from staff, graduate students, and postdocs conducting research. Details on both events are below.
