Assigning UO Spaces Codes for Vertebrate Animal Locations

Overview

In the RAP IACUC module, campus locations where animals are housed and used are tracked. Animal researchers select locations from pre-populated menus filled with location information obtained from the University’s live, web-based space management database, UO Spaces (https://spaces.uoregon.edu). Because of this reliance on UO Spaces data in the RAP IACUC module, accurate space assignments in UO Spaces are vital to ensure that the location selection menus in the RAP IACUC module are correct.

Instructions for UO Spaces Unit Editors who manage locations that house or hold animals are included in this document. Use the code assignments detailed in this document to ensure spaces can be found in the RAP IACUC module location menus.

Non-Vivarium Locations

If you are a UO Spaces Unit Editor who manages locations where vertebrate animals are kept outside a main vivarium, follow the instructions below.

  1. Authenticate at UO Spaces.
  2. Locate the space you need to update.
  3. Click the space edit link.
  4. Under the Prorate section, update the following items:
    • Type Code251 Non-Class Laboratory
    • Related Service (support): 51 Animal Room (See the examples below for cases when the "51 Animal Room" code should be used.)
    • UO spaces type code and related service code
    • Percent of Effort (POE): Enter the approximate percentage of the space where vertebrate animals are found. For example, if you have a lab and only 25% of the lab space is used for animals, the lab space would have two prorates. One prorate with a POE of 25% and Related Service code of 51 Animal Room and a second prorate with a POE of 75%. If you need to add additional prorates, click on the Add New Prorate button.
    • UO spaces prorate field
  5. Once all your changes have been made, scroll down to the bottom of the page then click Save.
    • All changes will be sent to the UO Spaces approval queue.

To help identify which codes to use, examples are included in the tables below.
