IIT Presents the Golden Egg Innovation Awards
Starting a New Tradition in Innovation
In a nod to our beloved University of Oregon Duck, we introduced the Golden Egg Innovator Award, an award to honor the innovation of UO researchers. Each Golden Egg represents a promise fulfilled, translating the dedication and innovation of our researchers into new methods and products that impact communities far beyond our campus.
Celebrating the Inaugural Award
The Golden Egg is a declaration of the UO's commitment to fostering a vibrant culture of innovation across campus. As we embark on this new tradition, we recognize that innovation takes many forms and emerges from every corner of our university. This year's celebration is the first of many, as we are dedicated to honoring the full breadth of the UO's creative and inventive spirit.
2025 Selection Criteria
The 2025 honorees represent years of exceptional achievement across three distinct categories of innovation:
Patent Holders (2018-2025)
Faculty and researchers whose inventions have received US patents, representing novel solutions to real-world challenges. These innovations span from breakthrough materials to life-saving medical devices, each protected by intellectual property that enables their journey from lab to marketplace.
National Academy of Inventors Members
Senior Members and Fellows inducted into this prestigious organization, recognized for their prolific innovation, significant impact on society, and commitment to fostering future inventors. NAI membership represents the highest honor for academic inventors.
Copyright Creators with Market Impact
An initial cohort of innovators whose copyright-protected works have found their way into active use in the marketplace, demonstrating the power of UO innovation beyond traditional patents.
Looking Forward: A Multi-Year Vision
While we celebrated many achievements in 2025, we recognize that the scope of our innovation can't be contained in one evening. We have carefully catalogued innovations spanning many years, and we're committed to ensuring every deserving innovator receives recognition.
Our multi-year rollout plan means that if you're not honored tonight, you're likely already selected for a future ceremony. This approach allows us to give each innovator the spotlight they deserve while creating sustainable, meaningful events.
The Golden Egg Awards will become an annual tradition, with each year bringing new stories of innovation and impact to light.
