Center for Cyber Security and Privacy
The Center for Cyber Security and Privacy conducts a variety of research projects and educational efforts focusing on the security and privacy of computer networks and systems. The center brings together faculty working in multiple departments and schools, including the Department of Computer and Information Science, the School of Law, the Lundquist College of Business, the Department of Philosophy, and Information Services, among others.
Center for the Study of Women in Society (CSWS)
This multidisciplinary research center generates, supports, and disseminates research on gender and on all aspects of women's lives. A member of the National Council for Research on Women, the center is one of 95 women's research and policy centers in the United States and among 300 centers in more than 80 countries.
Committee on the Advancement of Women Chemists (COACh)
COACh is a grass-roots organization working to increase the number and career success of women scientists and engineers. In addition to providing avenues for networking and mentoring of scientists and engineers at all levels, COACh works closely in an advisory capacity with many institutions, government organizations and departments to create a professional workplace that provides an equal opportunity for discovery.
Institute for Fundamental Science (IFS)*
The Institute for Fundamental Science supports research with the primary aim of understanding, exploring, and extending the fundamental laws of nature — with an emphasis on the consequences for observable phenomena. The center brings together University of Oregon investigations in experimental and theoretical high energy particle physics, astrophysics, and astronomy, and is complemented by a variety of inquiries into other foundational topics.
*Note: The Center for High Energy Physics (CHEP) and the Institute of Theoretical Science have merged into the Institute for Fundamental Science.
Institute for Resilient Organizations, Communities, and Environments (IROCE)
The Institute for Resilient Organizations, Communities, and Environment (formerly the Institute for Sustainable Environments) is advancing applied and interdisciplinary research, innovation, and partnerships toward action making a practical difference in the resilience of organizations, communities, and the environment. Resilience in organizations and human systems involves managing risks, understanding adaptive capacities, and identifying opportunities for innovation.
Institute of Ecology and Evolution (IE²)
The Institute of Ecology and Evolution, established in 2002 (formerly the Center for Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), promotes and facilitates research and graduate education in ecology and evolutionary biology. The institute encourages scientific interactions among its members and between members and the wider academic community.
Institute of Molecular Biology (IMB)
The Institute of Molecular Biology fosters interdisciplinary research and training in molecular, structural, cellular, and developmental biology by bringing scientists from the Departments of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, and Physics into a common physical and intellectual space. The institute offers graduate and postdoctoral training in a collaborative atmosphere, with research focused on fundamental biochemical, molecular, and cellular mechanisms.
Institute of Neuroscience (ION)
The Institute of Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary research group of scientists, with faculty and students drawn from the departments of Biology, Psychology, and Human Physiology. Our laboratories offer graduate and postdoctoral training in the neurosciences with projects that address the development of the nervous system to human cognitive processes.
Materials Science Institute (MSI)
The purpose of the Materials Science Institute is to study the structure and properties of materials, to educate and to provide professional development in the sciences of materials, and to serve Oregon as a resource in these sciences. Since 1985 MSI has more than quadrupled the size of its research program, increased Federal funding in materials over ten-fold, developed five new graduate programs in materials, and contributed to the state's prosperity through collaboration with more than 25 Oregon companies (four of which were launched by MSI faculty members).
Oregon Advanced Computing Institute for Science and Society (OACISS)
The institute's goal is to research the application of computer science and numerical computation to problems with brain modeling and imaging. High-performance computing plays a significant role in the research at OACISS.
Oregon Center for Optical, Molecular and Quantum Science (OMQ)
The Center for Optical, Molecular and Quantum Science encompasses research in basic and applied aspects of physics and physical chemistry. Members of the center are faculty members in physics and chemistry. Associate members are from these departments, as well as institutions outside of the university. Students–undergraduate, masters, and PhD–are involved in all aspects of the research at the center.
Oregon Humanities Center (OHC)
The Oregon Humanities Center is the primary interdisciplinary umbrella organization and research institute for the humanities at the University of Oregon. It seeks to promote and strengthen the humanities both on campus and in the broader community by supporting faculty research and teaching, by fostering collaboration among the disciplines, and by sponsoring a wide variety of public programs.
Prevention Science Institute (PSI)
The Prevention Science Institute (PSI) is a multidisciplinary research institute focused on improving the lives of children, families, and adults. PSI includes faculty from across campus with a shared commitment to understanding human development, preventing behavioral health problems, and implementing effective interventions in community settings. We conduct research from multiple perspectives, including examining interactions between the brain, social context, and behavior; designing, testing, and delivering effective intervention programs; and developing efficacious ways to disseminate programs into community, agency, and school settings.
