Occupational Health and Safety Program

Purpose: To provide information and establish procedures for an occupational health program for personnel who have substantial laboratory animal contact.

Scope: All University faculty, staff or students who use or care for laboratory animals and have substantial laboratory animal contact.

Policy:

An Occupational Health Program is mandatory for all individuals who have contact or environmental exposure to laboratory animals. Individuals having animal contact must notify the campus Environmental Health & Safety Office and complete a University of Oregon Health Questionnaire. After completing the health questionnaire, the physician makes a recommendation whether the individual's health or the health of any animal would be compromised by the individual working with animals. The extent of the program varies depending upon what species the individual is working with.
