Financial Conflict of Interest in Research Required Training

All investigators responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of sponsored research must complete financial conflict of interest in research training before spending award funds, per 42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F and UO policy. These investigators often (but not always) have titles such as principal investigator, co-principal investigator, and senior/key personnel.

The UO uses the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) for this training. Investigators must complete the COI Researcher module with a score of 80% or higher. Training is valid for 3 years.

To get started:

Note: Training completion syncs to the Research Administration Portal overnight. Training must be current before submitting a COI disclosure.

Training Migrating to MyTrack Learning January 1, 2026

Beginning January 1, 2026, the required financial conflict of interest in research training will move from CITI to MyTrack Learning.

The revamped training includes information on federal regulations, UO policy, and UO procedures. The duration (1 hour) and the frequency (every 3 years) of the training remain the same.

Existing training completion in CITI will continue to be valid. Those whose training expires after January 1, 2026, need to complete the new MyTrack training.

Complete Required Training in MyTrack

To facilitate the transition from CITI to MyTrack, the Research Administration Portal COI module connection with CITI is no longer active.

This means researchers may see “Your training has expired” or an inaccurate training expiration date when they click on the “training” tab in their disclosure profile.

Researchers can check their training status in CITI or email coi@uoregon.edu for confirmation that their training is still valid. The Conflict of Interest Office actively monitors training expiration and contacts researchers when their training is due.

There is no change for subawardees who need to use the UO’s policies and procedures, and they continue to complete a Qualtrics-based training and disclosure process. Learn more about subawardee requirements.

MyTrack Learning FAQs

Q: What’s changing with the FCOI training?
Beginning January 1, 2026, the required Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) in Research training will move from CITI to MyTrack Learning. The revamped course includes updated information on federal regulations, UO policy, and university procedures.

Q: How long is the revamped training, and how often do I need to take it?
The duration (about one hour) and frequency (every three years) remain the same as before.

Q: What if my CITI training is still valid after January 1, 2026?
You don’t need to retake the training right away. Your existing CITI completion will remain valid until it expires. Once it expires, you’ll need to complete the revamped training in MyTrack Learning.

Q: Why does my disclosure profile in the Research Administration Portal (RAP) show that my training has expired?
The connection between the RAP and CITI is no longer active, so the RAP can no longer display accurate training completion data. You may see an “expired” or incorrect training date, even if your training is current. The Conflict of Interest team at coi@uoregon.edu can verify your actual training status.

Q: Do I still need to complete the training before submitting my disclosure in RAP?
No. Because the systems are no longer connected, you can submit your disclosure even if your training doesn’t appear current in RAP. Both your training and disclosure must be complete and current before Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) can set up your award for spending.

Q: Where can I find the new MyTrack training?
Follow this link or log into MyTrack Learning using your Duck ID and search for “Financial Conflict of Interest in Research: Required Training for Researchers.” The course will be available beginning January 1, 2026.

Q: Who should I contact if I’m unsure about my training status or have issues accessing MyTrack?
Email the Conflict of Interest team at coi@uoregon.edu for assistance with training verification or access issues.

Q: Will I receive reminders when my training is about to expire?
Yes. The COI team will continue to send reminders as your training expiration date approaches to help ensure uninterrupted compliance.

Q: How will this change affect subawardees?
There is no change for subawardees who need to use the UO’s policies and procedures, and they continue to complete a Qualtrics-based training and disclosure process. Learn more about subawardee requirements.
