The University of Oregon continues to explore ideals, principles, and practices to raise our ethical standards. The UO mission as a teaching and research university includes not just the discovery and sharing of knowledge but modeling strong ethical principles in research and teaching, which includes the handling, usage, and repatriation of human remains.
Human remains continue to make major contributions to teaching and research, particularly to understanding human health and the origins of our species. The principles regarding the acquisition of those materials continues to change as ethical norms have evolved. The UO statement on human remains outlines our principles and processes governing the use of human remains at the University of Oregon. The University of Oregon plans to continue to proactively engage in this work and will post additional information on this page.
